2/16 Announcement - Parents and Students:
CBA will be having a Blue and White Scrimmage for those students who have been attending the Friday Afternoon basketball clinics. The scrimmage will be held at New Braunfels Middle School’s big gym on Feb 22nd from 6 – 8 pm. We will put into practice what we have learned on the court into action. The cost of this scrimmage is free. Please come out and participate and/or support your students in this activity.
CBA will be holding Basketball Clinics for all boys ages 4th grade and up. The clinics will be held each Friday from 5-6 pm on the following dates: Jan. 8, 15, 22, and Feb 5, 12, 19. Jan 29 and Feb 26th will be weather makeup dates. At the end of the clinics, we will hold a scrimmage to practice what we have learned. Clinics will be conducted by Jim Syers. What to bring: - Good pair of basketball or tennis shoes. Shoes should be basketball quality, covering the ankle, and tied properly to prevent injuries.
- Warm Athletic gear such as sweat or wind pants and sweat shirt. We will practice outdoors so be prepared for cool weather. You will get warm after we warm up.
- Basketball type/length shorts may be worn if it is warm.
- Gatorade or water bottle would be helpful.
- A positive attitude, ready to listen and learn about the game of basketball. No horseplay or negativity.
- Your best effort.
Cost is free. If any future costs of the program come up, you will be notified ahead of time. We may try to rent a Gymnasium for a scrimmage, so there may be costs involved with that. The following fundamentals will be taught: - A detailed description of the game of basketball, including each position, and offensive and defensive strategies.
- Passing
- Rebounding
- Dribbling
- Shooting
- Defensive positioning
Once these areas are covered, if time permits, we will transition into teaching basic offensive and defensive strategy, including man to man/zone defense, fast breaks, and offensive play. Where: Clinics will be held at CBA, outside on the asphalt court (behind the school). In case of inclement weather (too cold or rainy) we will use the make up dates. Goals: To introduce the game of basketball to CBA students. To intitiate an athletic program, and provide quality athletics for our school. To set up a program where we may have a basketball team in future years. To honor God in all that we do.
